Format 06 · Facilitated
Team building that is honest about what it is measuring
A facilitated afternoon on decision-making under uncertainty, run on casino-themed tables with symbolic chips and a debrief your people team can use.
- 12 to 80 participants
- 2.5 to 4 hours
- Facilitator plus croupiers
- Written summary afterwards
The premise
A table is the cheapest decision laboratory you will ever rent
Most team-building exercises fail because the stakes are invented and everyone knows it. A hosted table has the opposite problem: the decisions are genuinely uncomfortable — incomplete information, visible consequences, an audience — while the stakes are entirely symbolic. That combination is unusually useful.
Over two to four hours, participants work through rounds in rotating groups while a facilitator watches how they actually behave: who gathers information before acting, who anchors on the first suggestion, who goes quiet when outnumbered, who escalates after a bad round, who talks a cautious group into something.
The debrief is the deliverable. We name the patterns we saw — without naming individuals — and connect them to the decisions your team makes at work: pricing calls, project estimates, hiring panels, incident response, anything done quickly with partial information.
We are event facilitators, not psychologists. The programme is a structured observation exercise and a conversation, not an assessment, and we will not produce anything that could be used to rank an individual.

The structure
Four rotations and a conversation
The exercise is the same every time. What changes is the mix of people at each table and what the facilitator chooses to surface.
-
Rotation 01
Baseline
Existing teams sit together. Everyone learns the mechanics and settles into the habits they already have, which is exactly what we want to observe.
-
Rotation 02
Mixed tables
Groups are reshuffled across functions and seniority. Hierarchy stops being obvious, and the people who normally defer start making calls.
-
Rotation 03
Constrained information
Table captains limit what each group is told. Participants have to ask, infer and commit without certainty — the condition most of their real work happens in.
-
Rotation 04
Collective decisions
Each group must agree every action aloud before it is played. This is where consensus habits, dominant voices and quiet dissent become visible.
-
Debrief
Plenary and patterns
Forty-five minutes, facilitated. We describe what we saw, invite the room to disagree, and finish with three things the group wants to try differently.
-
After
Written summary
Within five business days your people team receives an anonymised summary: observed patterns, the group’s own conclusions and suggested follow-ups. No individual is identified or scored.
Fair warning
When we will say no
- If anyone in the group is under 18+
- If the programme is intended to feed a performance review or a redundancy decision
- If you want individuals ranked, scored or named in the report
- If participation is not genuinely voluntary for anyone who would rather sit out
- If a casino-themed setting would be difficult for a member of your team — we will suggest alternatives instead
Stakes, stated plainly
This is strictly offline event entertainment. There is no real-money gambling, no betting, no cash prizes, and no online casino service.
Chips are symbolic counters issued free and identically to every participant. Nobody stakes money, nobody wins money, nothing is redeemable, and the only prize is the debrief. If a participant would rather not take part, they are welcome to observe.

“The debrief was uncomfortable in the right way. Two of the patterns they described were exactly how our estimates go wrong.”
