Cookie Policy
What is stored on your device when you visit bluffandbash.com, what is not stored until you say so, and exactly how your choice is applied.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels, device identifiers — do comparable jobs, and everything in this policy applies to them equally. Cookies can remember a preference, keep a session secure, count a visit or recognise a browser across sites.
2. Our approach
This website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, measure performance and — with your consent — for advertising measurement and personalization. Where Google services are used, some data may be shared with Google. You can accept all, decline, or customise your preferences, and you can change your consent at any time. We comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
In practice that means:
- Nothing optional is stored before you make a choice.
- Analytics and marketing checkboxes are never pre-ticked.
- Declining is one click, in the same place and the same size as accepting.
- Scrolling, closing the banner or browsing on is not treated as consent.
- There is no cookie wall: the entire site is readable whatever you choose.
- Your choice can be changed or withdrawn at any time from the footer of every page.
3. The three categories
- Essential cookies — always active
- Strictly necessary only: storing your cookie choice so you are not asked repeatedly, basic security, and handling the enquiry form. These cookies are first-party, carry no advertising or analytics permission, and are not used to profile you. They are the only storage used if you decline everything else.
- Analytics cookies — off by default
-
Aggregated measurement, principally Google Analytics 4: which pages are read, which event formats attract
interest, and where enquiries are started or abandoned. These control
analytics_storage. - Marketing cookies — off by default
-
Advertising measurement and personalization, principally Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing,
and Google Tag Manager where it is used to deploy those tags. These control
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalization.
4. Cookies in use
The table below lists what this site sets or may set. Items marked “only with consent” are not present at all until you allow the category.
| Name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
bb_consent | Essential | Stores your cookie choice (analytics yes/no, marketing yes/no) so the banner is not shown again and your choice can be re-applied | 180 days |
_ga | Analytics — only with consent | Google Analytics 4: distinguishes browsers for aggregated statistics | Up to 24 months |
_ga_<container> | Analytics — only with consent | Google Analytics 4: session state for a specific property | Up to 24 months |
_gid, _gat | Analytics — only with consent | Google Analytics: short-term session and rate limiting | 24 hours or less |
_gcl_au, _gcl_aw | Marketing — only with consent | Google Ads conversion linker: attributing an enquiry to an advertisement | Up to 90 days |
| Google Ads remarketing identifiers | Marketing — only with consent | Showing our advertisements on other sites; frequency control; ads personalization | Up to 24 months |
| Server log entries | Not a cookie | Hosting security and reliability; generated by the web server, not stored on your device | Short rolling period |
Cookie names and durations are set by the providers and can change. If you spot a discrepancy, tell us at [email protected] and we will correct this table.
5. Google Consent Mode v2
Consent Mode is the mechanism that tells Google tags what they are allowed to do. This site implements version 2 of it. Before you choose anything, the default state sent on every page is:
| Signal | Default | Controlled by |
|---|---|---|
analytics_storage | denied | Analytics category |
ad_storage | denied | Marketing category |
ad_user_data | denied | Marketing category |
ad_personalization | denied | Marketing category |
After you choose, a consent update is sent that mirrors your choice exactly:
- Accept all — all four signals granted.
- Decline — all four signals remain denied, and any related cookies already present are cleared.
- Customise — analytics granted only if you ticked analytics; the three advertising signals granted only if you ticked marketing.
Essential cookies never grant any of these signals. Your stored choice is re-applied on every subsequent page view, so the signals stay consistent across the site, and withdrawing consent clears the cookies that were set while it applied.
6. Google services and data sharing
Where Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or Google Ads tags are active under your consent, information such as online identifiers, the pages you viewed, whether you reached our enquiry confirmation page, and technical details about your device may be shared with Google and processed by it.
Please read Google’s own explanations:
Advertising personalization only operates where you have granted marketing consent. If you decline, no advertising tag loads, no advertising cookie is written, and no personalization signal is sent.
7. How the banner behaves
- It appears at the bottom of the page and does not cover or block the content above it.
- Accept all, Decline and Customise are presented together, with equal prominence.
- Closing the settings panel without saving is not a choice: the banner stays until you make one.
- There is no age gate and no cookie wall, so search engines and Google AdsBot can read the full site.
- The first layer links to our Cookie Policy, our Privacy Policy and Google’s data-use page.
8. Changing or withdrawing consent
Use here, or the link of the same name in the footer of every page. The panel opens showing your current choice, and you can allow more, allow less, or decline everything. The change takes effect immediately.
9. Browser-level controls
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers offer a “clear browsing
data” option. Blocking essential cookies may mean your consent choice cannot be remembered, so the
banner will appear on each visit. Deleting the bb_consent cookie resets your choice to denied.
10. PIPEDA and oversight
Our consent practices follow PIPEDA: we identify the purpose, we obtain meaningful consent before using non-essential technologies, we make refusal as easy as agreement, and we allow withdrawal at any time.
Oversight in Canada rests with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: priv.gc.ca. You may complain to them if you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, and a provincial commissioner may also be able to help depending on where you live.
